Reading Update

We ended up with nearly 1,300 total submissions this year, each one with 1-2 poems in it, most of them with 2. We've reached decisions on almost 700 submissions. A lot done, but a long way to go ...

Our apologies if this somewhat vague information just raises more questions than it answers. Our goal is to be as transparent as we reasonably can. Target date for final decisions remains mid to late July.

I've surprised at the lack of comments this year...there were so many last year...

I suppose I could start the discussion off with a big thanks to the Best New Poets crew for all of their hard work! You guys rock ass,

I decided not to post too much this year because I felt my humor was lost amongst the many taking this blog uberserious as the metrosexuals would say.

How are the submissions coming along? Any updates on how many you've gone through?

Most contests, I dare say all but yours, make the unveiling a mystery.
Projected dates come and go. We wait in darkness. Thanks for your
updates.

I hope you forward many poems to the main judge. It's not that hard for Strand to read over 200-300 poems in a week and winnow fifty to keep.

One of the travesties of the larger contest system are those contests where the name judge never sees 98% of the submissions.

I tend to agree with the last poster, especially when dealing with such a large initial pool (2,500?). And I say thanks to Jeb for hearing our suggestions, whether they are adopted or not. :)
